Stay on Track while Traveling

When traveling this summer and aiming to work out, it's common to experience obstacles and interruptions to your wellness goals. Although it is challenging to maintain your workout regimen, it is still possible to remain active while traveling. Nearly 82% of Americans plan to travel this summer; of that number, almost 42% intend to travel more than once. No matter where you go or what your summer plans are, as the saying goes, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." Together, let's navigate our summer guide to staying on track while traveling:

  1. Prepare Ahead of Time: Did you know that many airports provide access to fitness amenities? Chicago, Vancouver, Singapore, Dubai, and Doha all offer travelers the chance to workout! If you have a long layover, take advantage of this opportunity and squeeze in a mini-session. If you’re short on time, aim to walk as often as possible and track your steps with an app or watch.
  2. Pack Accordingly: Pack items that support and encourage your fitness goals! Bring sneakers and socks for walking or other items such as a Pilates Mat or Resistance Bands.
  3. Move while in Flight: Did you know that the official name for the in-flight formation of blood clots in legs is “Economy Class Syndrome?” No matter your class, be mindful to move while in the air! The National Blood Clot Alliance has preventive, easy-to-do stretching and movements, which can be found HERE. Use your time in the sky to read, relax, and stretch as you prepare for your destination!
  4. Choose Hotels with Gyms: Book a hotel with all the exercise equipment you currently use! Are you looking to keep up with your Pilates routine? Our Frame Reformer is at the Santa Monica Proper in California, The Londoner in London, and as of July 1st, 2024  The Four Seasons Toronto
  5. Explore your Destination: Get up and go! Research exciting places to visit and plan on walking to most tourist attractions! Use your preferred fitness tracker to see how many steps you’ve taken and how many calories you’ve burned. Bring your camera or phone and take pictures to celebrate the new places you’ve explored!
Yes, staying on track is crucial to meeting your goals and taking care of your body, but remember to enjoy yourself too! Be flexible and go with the flow. Ditch your all-or-nothing mentality and make peace with whatever you can do each day. Take time to savor your destination's sights, culture, and cuisine! Remember that your vacation is to replenish your energy and expand your mind. No matter how far you go off track, you can always get back into a routine when you return home.
