Father's Day is a time to honor and cherish the influential men who have helped shape us. Whether it's our dads, grandfathers, uncles, or mentors, Father's Day is a time to thank them for all they've done. In addition to celebrating Father's Day this June, we also mark Men's Mental Health Awareness Month.
Approximately 6 million men in America are affected by depression each year. Men are also less likely than women to seek help for their depression. Data also shows that 29% of men are too embarrassed to speak about their struggles. While a multitude of factors contribute to this situation, one thing is sure — statistics can be improved! In honor of Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, we've created a guide to encourage the men in our lives to prioritize their well-being:
- Lead by example: Inspire the men in your life to make time for themselves by practicing your commitment to wellness. Set your alarm and workout before your day begins! Try setting a “wellness alarm” for him too! Like flying, make sure you put your “oxygen mask” on first so that you don’t lose yourself in your efforts to boost their wellbeing. Surprise the man of your life with our Frame Reformer and make movement a no brainer!
- Create social activities: Encourage group activities such as hiking, biking, or playing team sports to make exercise more enjoyable and less isolating. Studies show men are more likely to workout when exercising with partners.
- Set realistic goals: Help the men in your life meet their goals by regularly checking in. Emphasize progress, not perfection, and celebrate mini milestones.
- Stress the importance of regular check-ups: Remind the men in your life to schedule regular health check-ups and screenings to monitor their overall well-being.
-
Incorporate exercise into daily routines: Suggest walking or biking instead of driving short distances, taking the stairs, or completing household chores that require physical effort.
- Offer support and encouragement: Be a source of motivation and provide positive reinforcement as you both work towards a healthier lifestyle.
